Santa Barbara

santaBarbaraAltarHistory:
Founded in the early 1970’s, Santa Barbara Center was one of the first Sai centers in America. In its early years, the Center was led by Helene Vreeland and by Muriel Engle, who were among the first Westerners to travel to India to meet Sathya Sai Baba.

Since 1989, the Center has held its devotional meetings at Unity Church of Santa Barbara. After meeting in the Chapel for many years, we recently moved to Unity House, which provides a cozy and welcoming atmosphere.

Devotion:
We meet every Thursday from 7:00 to 8:30 pm. The program includes devotional singing, prayers and a brief period of meditation, plus a weekly focus:

1st Thursday: Sharing Night or Guest Speaker
2nd Thursday: Study Circle
3rd Thursday: Membership Meeting
4th Thursday: Singing Practice

Service:
Over the years we have engaged in a number of service projects, including preparing and serving food at a homeless shelter, and visiting residents in a local convalescent hospital. For our most recent project, we collected food donations for the Foodbank of Santa Barbara County.
